Krishna's Homemade Deepavali Delights

As promised, (and in appreciation of her mooncake treats a few months' back), L's school buddy Krishna packed a selection of his mom's homemade Deepavali delights for her today.

My all-time favourite MURUKU and this one really is FIRST CLASS!

This sweet kuih tastes of ginger and spices, and I don't know what it's called!

These milky balls are also sweet with crushed peanuts and other stuff that melts in your mouth.

I've never seen this type of sweet before. I believe it is made with grated coconut.
It's nice, with a chewy texture and not too sweet.

As a tribute to Krishna's mom's excellent cooking skills, the MURUKU was all gone by the time I sat down to do this post. It really was THAT Good!!

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year

Hi everybody! I apologise for the lack of updates.

I've been rather busy and much time is also spent on the road, out of the country and as such, I'm quite out of touch with the blogging community.

I hope things will slow down a bit for me after the new year so that I can start to reconnect with all my friends again. In the meantime, please excuse me for the unannounced break. It wasn't planned.

The year is coming to a close soon. This time last year, I was full of hope that 2006 will see us all getting a better deal from our Prime Minister and his Barisan Nasional government.

Let's just say I'll not hope for much in the coming year of 2007. The one thing I do look forward to is the next general election. And it doesn't matter when it'll happen, right?

So, here's wishing all my Christian friends a very Merry Christmas. And to everyone else, a Happy New Year to you too.

Eat, drink (OJ!) and be Merry folks!! Until we meet again, may you & your loved ones enjoy good health and God's blessings for the coming year.

Happy Deepavali!

The Festival of Lights is upon us again, and I wish my Hindu readers a joyous Happy Deepavali. May the light shines brightly over you and may you be blessed with all that is good and wonderful throughout the new year.

According to the wikipedia, Deepavali or Diwali is a major Hindu, Jain, Sikh and Indian Buddhist festival/celebration. Known as the Festival of Lights, it symbolises the victory of good over evil, and lamps are lit as a sign of celebration and hope for mankind.

The Sanskrit word Deepavali means array of lights that stands for victory of brightness over darkness. As the knowledge of Sanskrit diminished, the name was popularly modified to Diwali, especially in northern India.

Light a lamp to dispel darkness. Maybe we all should light lots of lamps in our homes this weekend. It will be a great message of hope for all Malaysians who aspire for real harmony and unity in our fragmented society. We need to find our way home, guided by the light of compassion.
