Don't call him a racist

Be fair.

He never demanded that a DAP Chinese candidate be made the MB of Perak.

He never said that he will not support a Malay Muslim to be made the MB of Perak.

All he did was voice his personal opinion that the post should not have gone to a PAS assemblyman. And for that he was subjected to all kinds of name-calling, the most undeserved being labelled a Racist.

Is this fair?

For all his eloquence, his post regarding the non-attendance of the swearing-in ceremony smacks of arrogance and insensitivity.

Afterall, the Regent / Sultan has the final say and Ngeh had previously made a press statement that the coalition will support whichever one of the nominees chosen by the Regent/ Sultan. How can he then issue such a statement?

I hope the wave of criticisms will send a strong message to him that the citizens are ready for a new Malaysia which is free from racism or religion. We would never have thought it possible but we are now inching towards that direction and we must protect this change of direction.

The fact that LKS asked the other 17 DAP Perak Assemblymen to boycott the ceremony is a little too much.

The harm has already been done. Hopefully things will work out eventually between BR. The last thing they need is disagreement like this in front of those skeptics who say BR will never work. :-)

I think he was in a difficult position. The online educated chinese are ready to accept a PAS MB but what about the older on the streets chinese? I think he was afraid of disappointing those and losing their support. Still, I think the DAP has had poor planning in this regard with the state DAP and the national one not speaking in unity. Anyway, the man has listened to the online community and appologised so let us move on. Hopefully this will no longer become ammunition against the opposition coalition. I think the new formula of having all three races represented in the new opposition led state govts is great nevermind who heads it.

There must be separation of politics and etiquette. Voice your objection but by attending the installation will only show Malaysians how mature the DAP has become. Gone are the days of rhethorics; people today are more discerning, and that is the reason why DAP got the chance to rule the state.

Like I said in my blog, this is a Great Malaysian Experiment - an experiment that had never been experienced before. Give it a chance to succeed for the betterment of all Malaysians.

I agree with Wormie that LKS lacks finesse in tackling this racially sensitive issue rather than being a mere racist.

Yes, I agree he is not a racist, and maybe in a difficult position as well. But being in politic for 40+ yr, he should know when to keep his mouth shut, but he act like amateur lah. Issuing such statement will just created a chance for BN-UMNO to blow a big hole to the weak coalition .
Uncle Lim, do you know what is "POLITIC" ???

LKS was representing the Chinese opinions and concerns. However, LKS must know DAP is no more an opposition party and would be part of the state cabinet that makes decision that affects the livelihood of everyone of which the majority of the population are Malays. As such, he got to be a bit more temperate and sensitive to all others, not just the Chinese.

Mave, I think the old man has not gotten used to this colossal fact! I'd prefer to cut him some slack given that he had quickly issued an official apology. Bet he also realized that Mr DAP has to finally give way to the new generation of young leaders who may want to chart a new image and direction for the party.

Let's hope he will be a big enough man to know when to let go.
